It is absolutely thrilling that my work, Identity Crisis, has been selected by Royal Academy of Arts. It took some time for this news to sink in. This recognition gave me a real boost of confidence in what I do and believe. I look forward to expressing myself through more creative works.

I have just finished my degree (1st HONS) and Turner Contemporary Gallery has selected my work for the graduate award. I feel that my artistic identity emerged from A Level (16-18). I still use the key elements that I discovered during the time. I see it as the start of my practice.

I was deeply saddened by people, shouting at me, 'a terrorist' as a young girl but was intimidated to say "No, your idea is wrong." All I learned from my religion and my culture is love, not violence, not killing. This art project was the only way that I could speak my voice. At least I could do something, that is not being ignored.

The cottage that I was born and grew up, holds many memories in every corner, with some indentations and discolourations, leaving marks of the sense of family history. Recognising negative spaces e.g. small gaps between furniture, slit in a packed closet, drawer organisations became my inspiration.

When my mum was struggling with her mental health issue, it was confusing and difficult time for me too. But now I have admiration to her. She has learned to live with her condition and determined to pursue her life purpose. I am proud.

No Frame is designed with two aims. Firstly, to celebrate teenage artists’ artworks that display highly individual and original qualities with admirable skills in various artistic disciplines. All showcased artists are my former students, who courageously open up themselves and compelled to express their keen intentions. They undertook personal creative challenges in the process and chose to solve problems collaboratively with peers and their artist- teacher. Their love of the subject and commitment to excellence, resulting in them blossoming as an artist with unique identity and style.
Secondly, to share The Creative Making Process that these showcased young artists went through which helped them to make their work to monumental to their life. This is stemmed from the U.K art education model and I find the secret of originality is in this process and more importantly how it is being operated. When it is done authentically, this can equip art students to use the subject as a tool for individual expression and grow vital qualities such as high level thinking skills, critical approach, problem solving skills and teamwork.
It is now offered to you to to encourage to undertake personal creative challenges and explore your curiosity.
